Northwest Missouri State University announced its enrollement numbers following the fall census. Enrollment at Northwest this fall is 6,338 students. Among those are 1,216 first-time freshmen and 289 transfer students. 73.2 percent of first-time, full-time freshmen students in the fall of 2016 returned to the University. The average ACT score of incoming freshmen is 22.7 and the high school grade point average is 3.39.
Of Northwest's student body, 21 percent come from under-represented domestic groups or other countries. That's an increase over last fall's enrollment. The University's enrollment includes 491 international students, which is about 8 percent of the total student body. The international students represent 31 countries with a majority of them coming from India, Nepal, China and South Korea.
Northwest students represent a total of 36 states this fall, with most out-of-state students drawn from Iowa, Nebraska and Kansas. The in-state student population is 4,130 students.
Northwest touts achievements that include a graduation rate in the 89th percentile of its national peer group. Additionally career website Zippia named Northwest the best college in Missouri for getting a job, with a 96 percent career placement rate.
Northwest is also ranked as the "top moderately selective regional university in Missouri" and Maryville as one of the "safest college towns in America."
