Eight people were killed over the Labor Day holiday weekend, according to the Missouri State Hghway Patrol which released statistics on motor vehicle injuries and crashes for Labor Day Weekend.
Among the statistics were 317 crashes, 112 injuries, 8 fatalities, 136 DWIs and 128 drug arrests. No deaths were in the Northwest Missouri area. The Highway Patrol saw a decrease in the number of deaths, injuries and crashes from 2016.
Troop H in St. Joseph set up a special enforcement project that covered interstate-29 from the Buchanan county line to the Iowa state line. Troopers were also assigned to high crash zones along U.S. highways within the Troop H area. The project resulted in officers issuing 107 citations and 228 warnings. Officers also made four DWI arrests, two felony drug charges and one misdemeanor warrant arrest. 38 motorists were assisted by troopers during the project.
