Sept. 20, 2017ST. JOSEPH, Mo. | By: Vinzant
The Missouri Alliance for Historic Preservation has announced its 2017 list of Historic Places in Peril. Executive Director Bill Hart says that the Places in Peril program advocates for the preservation of landmarks that matter to citizens.
There are thirteen locations on the program's list of endagered historic places, seven of which are new additions. Two locations in northwest Missouri on the 2017 watched properties list are the St. Joseph Livestock Exchange and the Frank L. Sommer "Cracker" House in St. Joseph. Sommer is noted for creating the saltine cracker.
If you believe a historically significant location in Missouri is in danger of disappearing, you can nominate it to be added to the Places in Peril list by going to www.preservemo.org, or by calling 660-882-5946.
