Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft began his statewide Voter Identification Information tour in Maryville yesterday afternoon.
Missouri voters in November approved an amendment requiring a photo ID before a voter can cast a ballot in Missouri. Photo ID requirements have been criticized as a way to limit voter participation among minorities and the poor who may not have a photo ID. Ashcroft, a Republican, says he believes the Missouri law addresses those concerns with three ways voters can cast a ballot.
Ashcroft urges people who need a photo ID to contact his office or their local County Clerk's office for information on how to obtain their photo ID.
