Northwest introduces early childhood education major

Northwest Missouri State University is introducing a new stand-alone Education Major specializing in early childhood.

The program licenses students to teach children from birth through third grade. This major is required for students planning to teach in kindergarten classes in Missouri.

The students are taught a strengths-based approach that works with all children. The students work with Horace Mann Laboratory School, the Phyllis and Richard Leet Center and other community settings to provide unique and "hands on" field experiences, helping classroom learning in an interactive and productive environment.

Along with the new major, students also have the option to become certified in Early Childhood Special Education.

The Early Childhood Education Major will be available through Northwest beginning this fall trimester.
