Total solar eclipse to be visible in St. Joseph

A local organization is helping prepare St. Joseph residents for a once-in-a-lifetime event.

The St. Joseph Convention and Visitors Bureau will host information sessions for the upcoming total solar eclipse on August 21. The information sessions will be held May 3 at 9:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the Missouri Theatre. Communications Director with the St. Joseph Convention and Visitors Bureau Beth Conway says the organization will kick-off the sessions with a short presentation outlining events to be held during the weekend before the eclipse and on the day of the eclipse.

Conway says following the organization's presentation a self-proclaimed "eclipse chaser" will share her solar eclipse viewing experiences, as well as provide viewing safety tips. To conclude the information sessions, city and county officials will brief the public on how the entire community is preparing for the unprecedented solar eclipse.
