After Maryville voters approved a tax increase Tuesday night to benefit Maryville Public Library, officials are moving forward with plans for improvements.
The measure results in a property tax hike of about 12 cents on $100 assessed valuation for residents. Library Director Stephanie Patterson says the levy's approval affirms the importance of libraries to communities and added that needed improvments to the building will start in the fall. The actual increase in the library's income will not take place until December.
This was the first tax increase the Maryville Public Library has asked for since 1962.
