Severe Weather Awareness Week for Nebraska is March 27-31 and the Nebraska Public Power District wants the public to know a simple safety message.
It's spring storm season and you should leave alone downed power lines. Don't assume that a power line on the ground is not live. Every downed power line is potentially energized and dangerous until utility crews can arrive on the scene to make sure power has been cut off.
Nebraska Public Power District Supervisor for Corporate Media and Media Services Mark Becker says the most important thing he wants people to understand is to not move downed powerlines. Becker says that every storm is different and that it may take several hours to several days to complete restoration work.
