Republican State Senator Dan Hegeman of Cosby, Mo., recently submitted a bill in support of first-responders because, he said, Missouri lawmakers support law enforcement. Hegeman added the bill will remove unnecessary regulations, which he characterized as "red tape hurdles" in the Line of Duty Compensation Act.
Under current state law, survivors of certain first-responders killed in the line of duty are eligible to receive $25,000 in compensation. To support these families Hegeman wants to make the process to move more smoothly.
