Northwest Missouri State University hosts its annual Jazz Festival this Friday, Feb. 24. The festival will include student musicians from 43 middle schools and high schools, as well as the Northwest Jazz Ensemble and the famed Count Basie Orchestra. Northwest Professor of Music Dr. Bill Richardson says this is a great opportunity for young jazz musicians.
School performances will begin at 9:15 a.m. in the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts, the Charles Johnson Theater, and the Tower View room and Ballroom in the J.W. Jones Student Union. The Northwest Jazz Ensemble will perform at noon in the Ron Houston Center with the Count Basie Orchestra to perform that evening at 7:30 p.m. Richardson says it is a great honor to be hosting the Count Basie Orchestra.
