Northwest Missouri State University is advising students and employees to take measures towards preventing influenza and mumps. To help prevent the spread of the illnesses, the University recommends avoiding close contact with people who are sick. It also suggests those who are sick should stay home and frequently wash their hands with soap and water or to use an antibacterial gel.
Nodaway County Public Health Nurse Supervisor Tabitha Frank adds that receiving a flu shot is the first step in protecting yourself. She explained that mumps is spread through droplets, and getting an M.M.R. vaccine is the most important preventative measure. She also emphasized not sharing drinks or chap stick with others.
