Senior Day for the most prolific class in program history was spoiled as Northwest fell 73-70 to Missouri Southern.

It marked the second time this season that the Lions (18-8, 13-4 MIAA) upset the Bearcats (22-3, 14-3 MIAA), and the first home loss for Northwest since January of 2015.

The two teams battled back and forth throughout the first half, with Southern gaining an edge going into halftime off a buzzer-beating three-pointer from C.J. Carr.

Northwest's standout point guard Justin Pitts was held scoreless throughout the first half, but scored 13 points in the final 20 minutes in an attempt to put the 'Cats back in front.

The Bearcats trailed by single digits throughout the second half, and got within one point of the Lions in the final seconds, but the comeback fell short.

Xavier Kurth led Northwest with a career-high 19 points and six rebounds.

Joey Witthus finished with 17 points, and Brett Dougherty scored 12 points.

As a team, Northwest shot 50.9-percent from the field.

The Bearcats wrap up the regular season with a pair of road games this week. The trip starts with a matchup against Lindenwood at 7:30pm Thursday. Pregame on KXCV-KRNW will begin at 7:10pm.
