Northwest remained within striking distance of McKendree University throughout the game Monday night, but they couldn't put them away in the second half.

In a game that featured 16 lead changes, it was McKendree going in front by one late in the third quarter, and they didn't look back as the Bearcats dropped their ninth straight game 72-65.

Northwest (1-11) opened up a nine point lead one minute into the second quarter, but McKendree (3-5) was able to cut the deficit to one point as the half ended.

The two teams exchanged the lead 13 times in the third quarter, but at the end of the back-and-forth frame, McKendree took a four point lead into the final ten minutes. Northwest tied the game at 63-63 on a Kaylani Maiava three-pointer with 5:32 remaining, but McKendree closed the game on a 9-2 run to seal the win.

Tanya Meyer finished the game with 12 points and six rebounds to lead the 'Cats. Macy Williams added nine points and five assists off the bench.

Northwest now has 16 days until its next game -- an MIAA contest in Joplin against Missouri Southern.
