Northwest 63, Missouri Southern 0

The Northwest Missouri State offense found its spark Saturday afternoon against Missouri Southern as the Bearcats (4-0) trounced the Lions (0-4) 63-0 on Family Day at Mel Tjeerdsma Field.

Senior quarterback Zach Martin put together a superb day completing 24 of 31 passes for 326 yards, and he matched a school record with six passing touchdowns. The only other quarterback in Northwest history to toss six touchdowns in one game was Kyle Zimmerman against Pittsburg State in 2016.

Eleven different receivers caught a pass in the victory with Shawn Bane Jr. leading the way. Bane hauled in seven receptions for 101 yards and three touchdowns. Jordan Bishop also caught three passes for 100 yards and a touchdown off of a successful flea flicker in the second quarter.

The Bearcats also received a balanced attack on the ground with Brody McMahon rushing for 58 yards and a score, and 54 yards for Jordan Grove. As the game wore on, true freshman running back Jordan Thompson also found traction in his first career game. Thompson rushed for 128 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, many of them coming in the second half as Northwest salted the game away.

Missouri Southern was limited to 69 total yards, including -43 rush yards.

Anthony Lane came up with is second interception of the season in the win, while seven different Bearcats accounted for six sacks.

Northwest is on the road at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on September 30 as they meet Central Missouri (3-1). Kickoff is scheduled for 4pm. Pregame on KXCV-KRNW will begin at 3pm.
