Northwest Missouri State University sat alone atop the MIAA standings after earning a 58-50 win over Washburn Saturday afternoon.

The Bearcats (21-2, 13-2 MIAA) are leading the conference once again for the first time since a January 4 road loss to Missouri Southern. The Ichabods (18-6, 12-3 MIAA) are one game back of the 'Cats with four games remaining. Central Missouri and Missouri Southern are each two games back of the MIAA lead.

Northwest pulled off the road win by playing stifling defense. Washburn shot just 17.4-percent (4-23) in the first half, and the Ichabods turned the ball over 19 times leading to 16 points for the Bearcats.

Justin Pitts, the reigning NABC National Player of the Year, came off the bench and was limited to just 16 minutes due to a turf toe injury. Joey Witthus stepped up with the best performance of his young Northwest career. Witthus scored 22 points on 8-15 shooting while playing all 40 minutes.

Brett Dougherty added 19 points and six rebounds, while Chris-Ebou Ndow scored nine points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Northwest begins its final homestand Thursday evening against Pittsburg State. Pregame on KXCV-KRNW will begin at 7:10pm.
