Bearcats Split Doubleheader with Missouri Southern

The Northwest Missouri State men's and women's basketball teams split a doubleheader with Missouri Southern last night in Bearcat Arena.

In the men's game, the Bearcats built a 22 point lead in the second half and held on for an 80-68 victory.

Bearcat men's head basketball coach Ben McCollum says his team was well prepared for the game.

The Bearcats had four players in double figures led by Conner Crooker with 16 points, Grant Cozad had 14, Zach Schneider 13 along with a team high six rebounds and Justin Pitts added 12 and five assists.

The Bearcats are now 18-5 overall and 11-4 in the MIAA and kept pace with Central Missouri which defeated Lincoln last night 67-47 and Lindenwood which defeated Southwest Baptist 89-76.

In the women's game, the Bearcats dropped a 73-71 decision in overtime to Missouri Southern.

The Lion's Nicole Hartzog had a steal and a lay up at the end of overtime to win it for Missouri Southern.

Bearcat women's head basketball coach Michael Smith says despite the loss, he thought his team played well overall.

The Bearcats were led by Ariel Easton with 20 points, Tanya Meyer had 17 and Shelby Mustain 13 points and ten rebounds.

The Bearcats fall to 8-16 overall and 4-11 in the MIAA.

Both Bearcat teams are off until next Wednesday when they travel to St. Charles for a doubleheader with Lindenwood.

Elsewhere in the MIAA in women's basketball Central Missouri defeated Lincoln 78-63 and Lindenwood downed Southwest Baptist 89-76.
