Missourians don't have to pay local auto sales taxes if they don't buy from a Missouri dealer The Missouri House did not override governor Jay Nixon's veto of the measure.

Republican Representative Tom Loehner said he did not like that the tax would have applied retroactively to all cars registered recently in Missouri.

Deputy director of the Missouri Municipal League Richard Sheets says the bill failing to pass poses a revenue problem for cities. He thinks the Missouri Supreme Court made a mistake in declaring the sales tax unconstitutional.
