St. Joseph CID

Wayman

ST. JOSEPH, MO (2011-09-12)

St. Joseph is moving forward with plans to create a downtown community improvement district, or CID.

A majority of property owners in that area have agreed to pay more taxes to help fund upgrades like additional security, landscaping, and other services and features for downtown St. Joseph. Clint Thompson is with the city and helping organize the district. He says the half-cent sales tax and half-cent property tax for the downtown district should bring in about $130,000 a year.

Mail-in ballots will be collected from residents in downtown St. Joseph with the council expected to approve the district in December. Taxes then could start being collected for upgrades April first of next year.
