MARYVILLE, MO (2011-09-20)
The long-time information systems vice president at Northwest Missouri State, known as the father of the electronic campus, announces his retirement.
Dr. Jon Rickman has been at the university for the past 35 years. Northwest gained national notoriety in the late 1980's by having a computer network in every residence hall, a project that gained national press coverage. In the 1990's Rickman also helped create "More Net", a statewide research and educational network. Rickman's department has also made available laptops to every student on campus, making the school the first in the nation to provide both laptop and textbooks to students as part of their tuition. Rickman is a native of Maryville and will retire the last day of this year.
