HIAWATHA, KS (2011-09-22)
The city of Hiawatha has put off the second phase of its streetscape project until the snow melts next spring.
The city commission has received bids for the project, but because of errors from the companies and higher costs, members wanted to re-bid the project that would have pushed the new bid openings past October 3rd which would have also pushed construction start on the streetscape into November and dangerously close to the winter months, making it impossible to work. The commission has voted to reject all bids, then ask for new ones after the first of the year, possibly even attracting more bidders on that schedule.
