The state auditor's office is out with its findings on Carroll county operations.
Investigators found several areas for improvement. One of those is tighter controls in the Carroll County Sheriff's Office to avoid one person having all financial duties. Auditors suggested segregating purchases, maintaining accounting records, and reconciling the bank account as well as include supporting paperwork for the sheriff's approval. The state auditor's office also suggested better records of fund transfers, double checking with bank records the amount of cash balances in the Emergency 911 Board for Carroll county, and to adopt an investment policy of county funds as required by the state constitution. County authorities say they have either complied with the state's recommendations or are currently in that process.
