BROOKFIELD, MO (2011-09-22)
The Brookfield R-3 School Board is bracing itself for more budget cuts.
At the meeting this week members and the superintendent discussed state cuts, which they classify as looking "Substantial" in the coming year. The Brookfield district says cuts could be equal to the salaries of a dozen to 15 teachers, that's about $517,000. Superintendent Dr. Paul Barger is suggesting the Brookfield District might want to consider raising its operating levy, that's hasn't happened in 24 years. President of the board Jeff Vogel says a tax increase should be a last resort in tackling the budget picture. Community meetings could be set up as early as next month. The Brookfield School Board also added synthetic drugs such as K-2 in its drug testing policy for students.
