MARYVILLE, MO (2010-09-13) Maryville residents could witness some alarming sights this week but the city says don't be worried.
The city has hired a company to do smoke testing forcing smoke through Maryville's storm and sewer lines, drains, and other parts of the storm water drainage system that snake through underneath the entire city. Multiple problems with the infrastructure has been reported for years. now city officials are using this week's smoke testing to find cracks in the pipes. Residents are being warned they could easily see smoke rising from the grass, woods, or from cracks in the pavement around Maryville this week. But they say not to panic. It's just crews looking for the breaks in the pipes. They say smoke should not enter homes however you can make sure of that simply by filling seldom used drains with about 3 cups of water. The smoke testing around and under Maryville starts tomorrow and runs through Friday.
