CRAIG, MO (2010-09-01) State park officials are opening a Northwestern Missouri Park closed this summer because of flood damage.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is reopening Big Lake State Park near Craig on Wednesday. Nearly all 407 acres of the park were swamped when an agricultural levee on the swollen Missouri River gave way in June. The campground, cabins, convenience store, playground and boat ramp will reopen Wednesday. Park officials say their goal was to open the park in time for the Labor Day weekend holiday. Earlier this year, state officials sought financial contributions. Officials also are asking for people who are willing to volunteer their time with skills such as carpentry and plumbing.
