MARYVILLE, MO (2009-09-09) A Local Church looks to make a splash with an out of the box event.
Laura Street Baptist Church in Maryville will host the First Annual "Great Race At Mozingo" Cardboard Boat Race on September 19th. Laura Street Pastor Paul McKim says the church hopes to bring together the Maryville Community and Northwest Missouri State University Campus Community with the intriguing comination of duct tape, cardboard, and lots of water. McKim adds that anyone is welcome to enter a boat from families to Campus Organizations to Businesses. He also welcomes those not so adventurous community members to bring a lawn chair and just come out and enjoy the morning. The Great Race will run from 8 O'clock until noon on Saturday, September 19th. In addition to the Cardboard Boat Race, the event will also include live music, a kid's carnival, and a cookout towrds the end of the morning. If you're interested in entering a boat in the race, you can pick up a registration form and rules packet at the Laura Street Baptist Church Office at 120 South Laura Street in Maryville, or you can access the forms online at www.laurastreet.com. Registration is free through this Friday, after that the cost is $5 per team.
