MARYVILLE, MO (2009-09-02) A technology once only available in the big cities is coming to Maryville in a matter of weeks and it will help step up law enforcement county-wide.
Federal Stimulus Money is equipping all police cruisers with in-car computers. These will be in the patrol vehicles of the Maryville Public Safety, Nodaway County Sheriff, and Northwest Missouri State's Campus Safety Departments. Public Safety Director Keith Wood says all three departments will be able to share information with each other every day not just on the big calls. Wood says Street Police will even have limited access to drivers license information, freeing up dispatchers who, up until now have had to run identity checks back at the Station. Wood hopes the New Computers will be operational later this Fall.
