ST. JOSEPH, MO (2009-09-17) This is National Child Passenger Safety Week, and the St. Joseph Police Department holds an event this afternoon aimed at making kids safer.
The department sites statistics like car crashes are the leading cause of death for America's kids ages 3 to 6 and 8 to 14. In 2007 more than 65,000 children younger than 14 were involved in fatal crashes. The St. Joseph Police are helping to sponsor a clinic this afternoon where parents can check with a professional to make sure their child safety seats are properly installed. That event runs from 1 to 3 today at the East Hills public library in St. Joseph.
