MARYVILLE, MO (2012-10-15)
St. Gregory's Catholic School is spending the month of October giving back to the community.
The 8th grade class decided to start Stocktoberfest, a food drive competition within the school to help stock the Ministry Center in Maryville. The Ministry Center's food panty feeds 400 to 600 people in the community each month, which equals approximately 200 families. St. Gregory's instructor, Jenni Halley says students got the idea after visiting the Ministry Center and seeing all of the empty shelves in the food pantry. Businesses around Maryville have stepped up to help with the collection. Halley says she is proud of her students and believes they are realizing how easy it is to help out someone less fortunate than themselves.
Halley says they working to achieve their goal of 2012 pounds of food. As of last week, the students had collected a total of 552 pounds of food. Anyone wishing to make donations can stop by the Ministry Center between 2 and 4 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Donations accepted include juice, soups, canned fruits, canned vegetables and cereal. The center also welcomes monetary donations.© Copyright, KXCV
