Local Red Cross volunteer have headed east to help those being affected by Hurricane Sandy.

The Midland Empire Chapter of the American Red Cross in Saint Joseph sent five volunteers in Emergency Response Vehicles to help those in need. The Red Cross is opening hundreds of shelters with the help of volunteers. Executive Director of the Midland Empire Chapter of the Red Cross, Kevin Kirby, says the Red Cross will help victims throughout Hurricane Sandy.

Kirby says his office will hold a disaster training class on Wednesday and Thursday from 9 AM-3 PM for those interested in volunteering . To register for the class you can contact the Midland Empire Chapter of the American Red Cross in Saint Joseph. Financial donations can be made to your local Red Cross Chapter to help with storm response. To find your local Red Cross or for more information you can visit www.redcross.org.
