Breast Cancer Month

Fluker

MO (2012-10-08)

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In the United States, about 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Early detection and treatment make the disease a highly survivable one. The current survival rate for women in the U-S is over 90 percent and even higher the earlier it is caught and treated. Women between 20 and 39 should get a breast exam every 3 years. Women older than that should have on each year. All women should conduct regular self-checks. Administrator at the Nodaway County Health Department Della Rhodes says while exams can be intimidating and easily delayed, they have a huge hand in catching cancer early.

On-site clinics are available in Caldwell, Carroll, Chariton, Grundy, Harrison, Linn, Livingston, Putnam and Ray counties for women of all ages and income levels. For more information you can call 877-611-7600 or you can go online at green hills women's health dot org or contact your local health center about its services and recommendations.
