ST. JOSEPH, MO (2011-10-25)
The St. Joseph based agency assisting the disabled in northwest Missouri settles a suit with the state attorney general.
"MERIL", or "Midland Empire Resources for Independent Living", will pay $130,000 to the state on allegations it failed to ensure personal care services billed to medicaid were actually performed. The state Department of Health and Senior Services said MERIL had multiple claims for in-home health services that weren't provided, and the agency was responsible for knowing that. The agency has worked with the state attorney general to develop quality assurances to better track medicaid billing and services to recipients. The attorney general is commending the agency for cooperating with the investigation and developing the new quality measures.
