Maryville area kids get a jump-start on their candy gathering during the city's annual trick or treat night on Thursday.

Hundreds of families have turned out for the downtown district event in previous years and just as many are expected this week to go door to door at area businesses. Event coordinator Kathy Rice says it's a safe way to celebrate the holiday.

Maryville's Downtown District Trick or Treating kicks off tomorrow afternoon at 4:30.
