Health Help Strategy

Wayman

ST. JOSEPH, MO (2011-10-31)

Several agencies in our region will be among the first in the nation to try a new approach for caring with people with both mental and physical health disorders.

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid has selected the state of Missouri to pilot a new model of care for people with the co-occurring conditions. In our region participating agencies are in St. Joseph, Trenton, and Kirksville. Tom Cranshaw is head of Tri-County Mental Health and says mental health centers will have more comprehensive oversight of patients.

Officials say people with mental and substance abuse disorders are more likely to have complex, chronic health problems compared to the rest of the population.
