HOLT COUNTY, MO (2011-10-31)
Damp, muddy conditions are hampering efforts to recover trooper Fred Guthrie Junior.
He's the Northwest Missouri Highway patrolman who disappeared in Missouri River flooding in Holt County back in August. Over the weekend crews pumped most of the water out of a 4-acre pond the flooding left behind. That's also the spot where K-9 dogs have hit on a human scent. However crews are now having to wait for the wind to dry out the exceptionally muddy bottom of the pond before excavation can begin. Officials expect the digging to start tomorrow.
