MACON COUNTY, MO (2011-10-25)
State health officials confirm a case of chronic wasting disease in a north Missouri deer.
The serious neurological disease is at a captive hunting preserve in Macon county, in north east Missouri. It's owned by Heartland Wildlife ranches, the same group that owns a similar facility in Linn county that also tested positive for chronic wasting in February of last year. Dr. Linda Hickman is the Missouri state veterinarian and says so far the one captive animal is the only known case and doesn't expect the disease to impact the upcoming deer hunting season.
