House fires are proving to be the biggest disaster threat to families in our region.
The American Red Cross responded to 126 families with house fires in the Midland Empire during the 2011 fiscal year. That's one fire every three days. October is National Fire Prevention Month and the American Red Cross wants raise awareness. Executive director of the Midland Empire chapter Kevin Kirby says one way they want people to be prepared is by having the right equipment.
