HIAWATHA, MO (2010-10-15) The Hiawatha city commission starts its investigation to consider a smoking ban for all youth events in the city.
The move comes at the suggestion of Hiawatha resident William Worchester who proposed the idea as the recent city commission meeting. Worchester sited San Francisco, Chicago, and New York have smoking bans on all parks, plazas, open areas, and buildings. He points to the precedent of not allowing smoking at the Hiawatha public pool. City administrator Lynn Ladner says the city is checking on the legalities of initiating a ban.
