ST. JOSEPH, MO (2010-10-05) An architectural landmark in St. Joseph is finding a new life.
Known as "The Castle" on Frederick Avenue going into downtown, its current owner UMB Bank says they are closing their facility. The company will donate the building to the city of St. Joseph to remodel it as a fire station. The bank says it's chosen to donate the city rather than sell to maintain the historic integrity of the building. The city's fire station number 9 currently sits about 2 blocks away. By re-locating the fire department will get additional space plus a possible community meeting room. A series of public meetings will be scheduled to inform the surrounding neighborhoods about the project and its timeline.
