SHENANDOAH, IA (2009-10-23) Legendary Jazz Bassist and Shenandoah native Charlie Haden receives a National Lifetime Achievement Award tonight.
Haden made history by becoming a legend at age 19 as a member of the Ornette Coleman Quartet that re-defined Jazz in the 50's and early 60's. He was born in Shenandoah in August of 1937 and even did a stint in the Keith Jarett Trio. The bass player magazine's Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to him at Hollywood's Key Club tonight, followed by a screening of his documentary at the Musician's Institute and an all-start jam.
