Hiawatha Commission

HIAWATHA, KS (2009-10-20) The Hiawatha Commission has agreed to purchase a security system for the new city offices.

Members has approved just over $1,500 to purchase and install 5 cameras to the Plamann Historical Building. The Brown County Historical Society is also pitching in about $1,500 for the system, which will be able to be monitored from any computer inside the building. Hiawatha is also considering purchasing an "Asphalt Zipper" machine for street repairs. That's a unit that can crush the existing road surface then with that mixed with a stabilizer like cement, it can be put back in place. City officials say that can drop the cost of street repair from $40 to $60 a square yard down to $3. Hiawatha continues discussing a possible purchase.
