MARYVILLE, MO (2008-10-13) Northwest Missouri drivers may have already seen the "safe and sound" signs posted near area bridges, and that means road work is on its way.
The signs are posted at over 150 Northwest Missouri bridges that will be repaired and replaced over the course of five years starting next year.
Missouri Department of Transportation community relations manager Elaine Justice says contracting of the bridges will begin next month.
She says MODOT will have a schedule of bridge repairs available soon.
Justice says construction could begin as early as January of next year and bridges will be closed between 60 to 75 days during construction.
Justice says drivers will need to seek alternate routes during construction periods. Temporary bypasses won't be built during construction due to cost and time constraints.
