MARYVILLE, MO (2008-10-13) The city of Atchison is cracking down on nuisance properties in the community.
Atchison city manager Justin Der says it's part of the city commission's focus on code enforcement.
The city commission held its meeting last week, and building demolition was a key issue. Der says these buildings had holes in their roofing, and many had buckling walls.
Owners of the buildings brought forward plans to repair or demolish the buildings themselves. Der says the city is working with the owners and making progress on the properties.
He says two owners of nuisance properties could not be contacted, so the city will demolish the two buildings.
Der says the city will turn its attention to three other nuisance properties where the owners are storing construction debris without the proper permits.
