With the November election over, the window of opportunity is closing for the Lame Duck session of Congress to complete everything on their long to-do list.

Executive Director of the Center for Rural Affairs in Iowa, Chuck Hassebrook, says everything from conservation programs to help for beginning farmers, to rural development hangs in the balance if a Farm Bill is not agreed upon by Congress.

Hassebrook adds just as important to Iowa and the upper Midwest is the extension of the Production Tax Credit.If the Farm Bill is pushed into 2013, greater cuts in spending are possible. The version passed by the Senate last spring would trim farm bill spending to 23.6 billion dollars over 10 years, and the bill passed by the House Agriculture Committee has a 35 billion dollar reduction in spending.
