Apollo 13 Astronaut Fred Haise spoke on the Northwest Missouri State campus last night as part of the University's Distinguished Lecture Series.

Apollo 13's 1970 moon landing had to be aborted following an explosion to the number-2 oxygen tank. After the astronauts and mission control had discovered the nature of the explosion...Haise says he went through a wide range of emotions during a short period of time.

Haise says as he and fellow astronauts Jim Lovell and Jack Swigert began inspecting the damage from the explosion he began to feel confident mission control would find a way to return them to earth.Haise spent 20 years with NASA. Besides being a part of the Apollo missions, he also served as an aeronautical research pilot and went on to fly five flights as the commander of the Space Shuttle Enterprise in 1977 for the Approach and Landing Program at Edwards Air Force Base.
