The superintendent of Stanberry schools is resigning.
Dr. Bruce Johnson submitted his letter at Monday night's school board meeting. Johnson is under contract and plans on remaining with the district until the contract ends on June 30th of 2013. Members of the board accepted the letter of resignation. The Stanberry School Board also approved a plan to refinance the district's debt. Superintendent Johnson says the move is to take advantage of lower interest rates, saving the district about a hundred thousand dollars over the life of the loan. After refinancing, the district can re-visit another option in March also renewed the plan to keep Jefferson C123 students coming to Stanbery to participate in junior and senior high wrestling. And they accepted the resignation of Laverne Smithson at the end of this school year. Smithson has taught and coached wrestling and golf at Stanberry for 17 years.
