MARYVILLE, MO (2011-11-15)
KXCV news has confirmed Savannah state senator Brad Lager is announcing he's running for the Missouri lieutenant governor's seat for next year.
The Ravenwood native and former Maryville City councilman made the announcement after a senator from Joplin and a St. Louis attorney both announced Monday they would not seek the state's second highest seat. The speaker of the Missouri house was running for the seat but announced he was dropping out of the race. Lager is a fiscal conservative who has championed less government spending and a pro-jobs platform. This is his second state-wide campaign, after running unsuccessfully for state treasurer in 2008. Another northwest Missourian, former state auditor Susan Montee from St. Joseph, is running for the lieutenant governor's seat on the Democratic side. Current lieutenant governor Peter Kinder is stepping down to seek the governor's position.
