Red Cross and local Fire Department in the area are teaming up to help citizens with the event, "Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery". This event is designed to help citizens who are physically or financially unable to change their batteries in their smoke alarms. The Red Cross is also helping out with installing smoke alarms for people are also unable to afford the devices. Kevin Kriby executive director of the Midland Empire of American Red Cross in St. Joseph says smoke alarms are so important because they save lives. This 15 year event has ahd a lot of help in the past, including the Energizer battery plant in Maryville. The plant has donated 2,000 batteries to help with the event.
