TARKIO, MO (2010-11-05) Erickson Farms in Tarkio has landed a newarly $200,000 grant to move forward on the future corn processing plant.
The money from the Department of Agriculture is the largest of 10 grants awarded to various Agriculture enterprises. Erickson has been exporting white corn to South Korea and Europe for use in chips, tortillas, and other products. The grant is being used for marketing and a feasibility study for a new 26 and half million dollar processing plant that will cook the corn for 4 or 5 major grocery distributors here in the US. Co-owner Dennis Erickson says the new plant will also employ about 150 people in the next 3 years. Erickson anticipates groundbreaking before the end of the year on the new Tarkio corn plant with it fully operational by late summer of next year.
