MARYVILLE, MO (2010-11-05) About a dozen first graders got a unique reading lesson yesterday in Maryville, they went to Parkdale Manor Nursing Home to practice with a partner.
The 6 and 7 year olds are from Horace Mann School. Their teachers say it is a chance to show off their talent without being corrected like they would in the classroom. First grader Garrett Phillips liked the idea. And new reading partner Lois Munk says she is happy to see new faces, and was happy to help out the younger generation. The Horace Mann first graders will be returning to the Nursing Home at least two more times before Christmas to interact with the seniors.
