MARYVILLE, MO (2009-11-25) Missouri's governor and State treasurer are backing a proposal to pay the first year's property taxes for some home buyers.
The plan targets families making less than $98,000 a year, who buy a new or existing home after January 1st. State treasurer Clint Zweifel wants the State to pay up to $120,050 in property taxes the first year. He says this would not just help the housing market it would spur growth as well. State officials are considering the $15 million held in reserve by the Missouri housing development commission would be used to pay for the program. The commission is expected to vote on the proposal next month.
